Adelaide – Monday March 21st & Tuesday March 22nd

What a fantastic couple days in Adelaide! I most often am taking a small time out of the end of my day to write these brief thoughts of the day. Not these last couple here in Adelaide……….. they have been a couple later evenings  spent with my new Groovy Grapes friends. A quick recap requires pointing out my taking part in the groovy grapes Barossa valley wine tour, starting bright and early stopping at our first winery, Jacob’s Creek at 10a.m.. Must admit I don’t think I have ever started drinking that early but the group of 16 of us tried all these quality wines amongst their new ecofriendly visitor centre situated in the heart of the Barossa Valley along ‘Jacob’s Creek’ with the vines of all different types of grapes rowed out for miles on end. We tasted the Sparkling Riesling, the Riesling, the 3 Vines Shiraz, the Reserve Shiraz and the Moscato Rose. All really quite tasteful but my favourite was the Rose by far. After a quick tour it was on to boutique winery Simpatico where we tried another 5 award winning wines ranging from voigneur, semillion and shiraz. And thankfully, we stopped for lunch at the Clubhouse in Tanunda where I tried the kangaroo fillet, rather tasty! We then headed for Richmond Grove Winery where we were walked and talked through the process of harvest (vintage), mash and pressing of the grapes, with a chance to dry the different grapes grown on the vineyard. With a focus on dry wines (which are not my favourite) I had a glass of each but often passed them on to my drinking buddy Matt (who did and does drink everything!). With all of us feeling quite a bit happy we wrapped up the tour at Seppeltsfield whose winery has a focus on ports. Now this is where my 2 kiwi bloke mates, Ross and John nearly 60 something guys that had been over in Adelaide working the car race on the weekend) were truly in their element. We tried aged wines, 3, 10 & 45 year aged ports with most of mine being passed along to Matt. A fun day out in the Barossa Valley with a great knowledge and understanding and liking for South Australia wines!

That evening included a pizza night out with friends and a gather at a small gig at ‘Grace Emily’ where fun was had by all 



Today has been a slow start with laundry, planning and then off to the Central Market with Alyssa and David. With some great produce on hand we puttered Chinatown and took the free shuttle bus around Adelaide pointing out the key spots of museums, galleries, botanic gardens, parks, Rundle Street and Mall, arcades and downtown core. Tonight was wrapped up with a fun dinner out with Alyssa and David and an early night for my early morning, 6:15 am pickup to head off with Groovy Grapes Rock Patrol on my 6 day excursion to Alice Springs 
